Porsche Football Cup: RB Football Academy Salzburg and VfB Stuttgart secure the group wins

VfB Stuttgart against VfL Wolfsburg and Red Bull Football Academy Salzburg versus Barcelona – the semifinal line-up at the Porsche Football Cup in Stuttgart. The U-15 tournament featured outstanding football and an attractive programme of side events right away on the first day of matches. The second day of the tournament will begin on Sunday at 10.00 am. Admission is free.

The atmosphere at VfB Stuttgart’s training grounds was electric right up to the end of the first day of the tournament. With the match against title-holders Barcelona already in stoppage time, the hosts finally managed to equalise (1-1) and remain unbeaten. The draw secured them the group win. Equal on points in second place in Group A, the Spaniards also advanced to the semifinals where they will meet RB Football Academy Salzburg. Group B runner-up VfL Wolfsburg will face the young hopefuls from Stuttgart.

The eagerly awaited opening encounter between the two local teams VfB Stuttgart and Stuttgarter Kickers ended in a 3-0 win for the hosts. At the same time, Barcelona narrowly overcame Borussia Mönchengladbach. After three matches each lasting 40 minutes, the home club claimed the group win ahead of the Catalonians. Stuttgarter Kickers and Borussia Mönchengladbach finished in third and fourth respectively.

Salzburg wrapped up the win in Group B with two victories and a draw. Also on five points, VfL Wolfsburg additionally remained unbeaten. Third place in the group went to Erzgebirge Aue ahead of the tournament’s only U-14 team from Bayern Munich.

A total of 29 goals spread over 12 matches were scored on the first day of the tournament. The large number is not only something to smile about for the goal scorers and their teams. The young footballers are also contributing to the social good by hitting the back of the net so often. As a part of the “Goals for Charity” fundraiser, the sports car manufacturer will donate 400 euro to the “Stiftung OlympiaNachwuchs Baden-Württemberg” foundation. The foundation is committed to the sustained support of up-and-coming sportsmen and women and accompanies young athletes on their paths to the Olympic Games.

What’s next

Sunday’s semifinal games will be played in the Robert Schlienz Stadium and on Pitch 1 – kick-off is at 10 am. The play-off for fifth place between Kickers and Aue as well as the seventh-place play-off between Mönchengladbach and Bayern will both start at 11 am. The third-place play-off will commence at 12.15 am. The final will follow at 1.45 pm.

In collaboration with the SPORT1 television channel, the junior competition will be televised live with a German commentary. On Saturday, 6 September, six group matches on Pitch 1 will be shown on sport1.de from 10 o’clock onwards and streamed on SPORT1’s YouTube channel. On Sunday, 7 September, a semifinal, the third and fifth place play-offs will be broadcast as will the final in the Robert Schlienz Stadium at 1.45 pm – also in sport1.de and on SPORT1’s YouTube channel. The final will also be screened in linear television in SPORT1. The channel’s so-called “Doppelpass” pundit show on Sunday will transmit live from the Porsche Football Cup.
